Contribute to my Jimmy Fund Walk

So, as I may or may not have already told you, I've volunteered to walk in the Jimmy Fund charity walk. I will be walking 26.4 miles (the entire path of the Boston Marathon) on Sept. 17th.

I currently have a fundraising goal of $500. This money will be donated to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to provide compassionate care for cancer patients as well as help fund research to improve the survive chances of those patients.

I hope you will help this cause by making a contribution to my walk. Your contribution will help current and future cancer patients everywhere. This way we can all help to end cancer.

Follow This Link to visit my personal web page and help me in my efforts to support Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and The Jimmy Fund

Tough Things to do

What a day.

Tough things I had to do today:

1) Realize that the cute chick who smiles at me a lot was just being nice (besides, anyone who turns down seeing Boris' Kitchen because they "might be bored"... nuff said)
2) Realize that "I'll consider it" really is a very nice way of saying "That's nice, but no thanks"
3) Acknowledge that when your date for the evening doesn't answer her phone, or return your call regarding where your meeting it means you've been upstood
4) Accept that some women just aren't going to be interested in you, and the best thing you can do for them is to wish the happiness wherever they may choose to go.

Back to square one once again. Damn you chinese fortune-cookie fortune and your lying eyes!

BK For Life

So, last night I went to the Boris' Kitchen Old Shit Show.

I'm not going to write a review (did think of that though), because most of you have probably seen all the sketches they did. (quirty you may be out of the loop, but I can fill you in later).

It was great to see everyone. I hadn't realized how much I'd missed them all, and it was nice to see that they missed me too. The Freshmen were really good. queenitsy and baelarion, the troupe is in great shape. The place was packed! They couldn't fit everyone in! People were standing in the hallway!!! It was incredible.

There were a number of other graduated Borsians. And it was great to see all of them again too.

Apparently some of the Freshmen have already learned The Happy Dance. :-)

And they have a special interview with the commissioner of the NFL. Here's the quote as I remember it:

Interviewer: So, I hear that the players are also contributing [to the Katrina relief fund]?
NFL Commissioner: Yes. The players have really stepped up to the plate. We've raised over a million dollars already.

So, what really bothers me about this:

Its during the FOOTBALL game, the FOOTBALL league commissioner, talking about FOOTBALL players. AND HE MAKES A BASEBALL METAPHOR!!!

Is anyone else bothered by this?

Driving without a horn is like being a mute in an argument

So, If one observes dogs, and their attempts to verbally communicate (i.e. barking), one realizes that even with a limited set of expressions (variations on barking) they can communicate certain ideas very well. There's loud bark and growl (for expressing anger, or warning of danger), the quieter single bark for attracting attention, and the continuous excitement barking (the guests are arriving).

This seems very analogous to how people use their horns when driving in traffic. There's the long extended honk (as a form of shouting at stupid drivers), the quick short honk (for getting attention of others), and the repetitive celebratory post-sports-game honk.

Mixed Metaphors

So, this afternoon I was thinking to myself. I only really have a vague grasp of a what a mixed metaphor is. I wish I had a good concrete example so I could really wrap my brain around this concept.

A few hours later as I watched a taped episode of The Daily Show:

"The thing with Islam is, that they don't have a Pope, who would say 'Hey! That's not Kosher'. Not that he would say that..."

I feel better now.

Interrogation of the Temple Spirits

Bruised and battered I entered the temple doors.

"Why have you resisted my entrance so? Why have you tested me so?"
I cried to the keepers of the holy place.

"Because of your wisdom and your ignorance!

" Your pursuit of wisdom has brought you to this point. You began your quest for knowledge shortly before the beginning of the end. You planned to gain the knowledge to work towards preventing the failure and destruction of all that you held dear. And over the following years, you gained a great deal of knowledge. However, that knowledge came too late.

"The World has ended. The remains of the destruction are all around you. All of your kind have been destroyed, betrayed by your very own tribe. The future of all is in question, and you know nothing of this. You have been blind to the apocalypse which has occurred under your very nose. The day of judgment has come and gone and you have been completely unaware! You have sidestepped prophecy."

Images of chaos swirl all around. Great monuments of triumph are torn down, colossal fractal webs of organization are sliced to strands, and a poison seeps across the world, tainting everything. Even the mightiest of defenders are subject to its toxin. Few resist, and even those are quickly shouted down by the infected. This venom is ubiquitous, it is the venom of Fear.

"What would have had me do? Given up my quest for wisdom? Joined the warriors who fought so valiantly? What would I have accomplished? Most likely I would be lying dead with all the others, or worse been poisoned with the others and found myself fighting AGAINST what I believed in?"

The Keepers remained silent

"Now I am alone, the last of my kind. But one survivor of a lost world is better than no survivors. Though I may be the end of the line for my kind, at least I can tell our story. While we may die out in the material world, at least we shall have immortality as our wisdom is passed on. Perhaps in time I may come across another who, like me has escaped a rightly deserved doom. Either way, I have what tools I have, and now I learn to use them for purposes other than they were intended."

"That is the reason you were permitted to enter"

If you watch closely as it explodes you can make out a ball of water, which quickly breaks apart (hopefully because of collision with a friend).

Well, NASA scientists, in their ever love of finding excuses to study interesting things, have decided to reminisce of their childhoods and explore water balloons, this time in Zero G.

Links:

Water balloons in Free Fall:

Website

Video 1
Video 2
Video 3

Water balloons in normal gravity:

Website

Video 1
Video 2
Video 3
Video 4

I love the way that the water stays glooped together. Its very surreal. Kind of makes you imagine creating larger and larger balls of water. (Can you imagine a spherical swimming pool?) Final Fantasy fans will hopefully get the Blitzball Reference.

But what if you add more water? What would a real water world be like? Nothing but water? (No rocky core). Voyager touched on the idea in Thirty Days (pic). Naturally they missed the opportunity to explore a wonderful idea.

Anyway. Some fun food for thought :-)

What the hell is wrong with this town?

What the hell is wrong with this town?

Tonight is the 21st of June.
Tonight is the summer solstice, the shortest night of the year
Tonight is a full moon.

Where the hell is everyone?!

I went to the caern (or, where I think it is), and there was nobody there tonight. Where the hell is everyone? Its one of the most important nights of the year and its a full moon to boot. Any self-respecting garou would be at a caern tonight. Where the hell are they? There weren't even any kinfolk there! What has come over this town that a night like tonight would be so completely ignored?

Hell! Even the black spirals worship on a night like this.

Something is seriously wrong. >:-( !

The Caern

Well, my guide wasn't able to make it, which is probably for the better. I had forgotten how out of shape I was. So, while I still haven't found the Caern, I at least got a little exercise. I was really surprised at the number of spirits there. I would never have thought there'd be that many. Most of them went about their business as you might expect them too.

The confusing part though was the number of dog spirits which were so surprised to see me, and how cautious of me they were. I wasn't sure if it was for my protection or theirs...

Finding a local Caern

Well, I'm not moved, and settled. Not completely unpacked, but that's not surprising, I'll probably not finish unpacking until sometime in July.

I've already spent some time getting the lay of the land. Local supermarkets, local library, local movie theater, and of course, the search for the local wildlife and Caern. I did manage to find this last one surprisingly. Or, at least I think I did. There's a local lake (its actually a reservoir). All around it are the signs and markings one would expect, but there doesn't seem to be one.

I also haven't been able to find any neighbors either. A local kinfolk is the only one who's answered my calls. She's going to take me to explore the reservoir this evening. (She doesn't know anything about any local caerns, and her Lore knowledge is effectivly non-existant.)

Summoning the long forgotten Nintendo spirits

So, I was in the process of practicing some spirit summoning rites, when I came across a spirit which I'd thought was long forgotten from this world.

Duckhunt.

Which you may remember was a rather famous game for the original Nintendo Entertainment System.

Well, I had a little fun, and ported it into an osciliscope and a PIC microchip.

I hope you all are amused.

Duckhunt on an Osciliscope

And thus begineth the quest for housing in the real world. Went in search of housing with friend, and while we were unsuccessful in actually arranging to look at anything today, it made me feel a lot better. Tomorrow we are scheduled to actually look at places. (One of you has e-mail regarding this.)

I'll be nice to start really feeling independant and no longer a Cub.

Oh, and btw, for those of you who may not have noticed: The new line of fetish material has arrived let the call to hunt begin.
